First entrepreneurial role

JobNewsToday changed my life.

JobNewsToday was my first real entrepreneurial role. It started from a Quora message, a surprising partnership with Raja Kopulla, and a simple idea that turned into content, teaching, traffic, YouTube growth, acquisition interest, failure, and a life-changing career direction.

How it started

A Quora message became my first startup chapter.

At that time, I was preparing for government jobs and writing a lot on Quora. I did not know that one message would pull me into my first business, my first cofounder relationship, and my first experience of building internet traffic from the ground up.

The funny part: after my first conversation with Raja, I thought he might be a scammer and stopped taking his calls. But he kept following up with unusual persistence. Eventually, he convinced me, and that persistence became the beginning of JobNewsToday.

Raja found me through Quora.

Raja Kopulla had posted a cofounding opportunity on Quora. He wanted to build a content blog around news in India, and I reached out because I was already active as a writer there. I had the writing habit, he had the SEO interest, and that became the base of the partnership.

The original idea was not JobNewsToday.

The initial thought was closer to a general India news blog. But because I was preparing for government jobs and wanted to teach what I was learning, Raja suggested that we build JobNewsToday instead of IndiaPost.Today. That small strategic shift made the idea more focused.

We became equal partners.

We agreed to work on a 50 50 partnership. I focused on writing, teaching and content creation. Raja focused on SEO and growth. It was simple, raw and imperfect, but it gave me my first taste of what it means to build something with another founder.

It became more than a blog.

JobNewsToday covered job opportunities, government job notifications, educational content, courses, book affiliate marketing and a YouTube channel where I used to teach. It turned my preparation journey into a public learning platform.

Early traction

The numbers gave us confidence. The business model humbled us.

JobNewsToday started showing signs that something real was happening. The audience was growing, the traffic was building, and outside interest started coming in. But we had not yet learned how to monetize attention properly.

What we built

JobNewsToday was a content, education and audience-building engine.

The venture taught me that content can become a business asset when it connects to a clear audience need. People were searching for jobs, exams, notifications, learning material and guidance. We tried to serve that demand through multiple formats.

BLOG

Job opportunity content

We published content around job openings, notifications and government job-related updates. This became the core search traffic engine for the platform.

SEO

Search-driven growth

Raja focused on SEO, while I focused on writing and content. Together, we learned how search intent can build traffic when the content solves a real need.

YT

YouTube teaching

I used the YouTube channel to teach what I was learning during my own government job preparation. That gave the venture a more personal and educational identity.

BOOK

Book affiliate marketing

We experimented with affiliate marketing through books and learning resources, trying to connect content consumption with useful products for exam preparation.

COURSE

Courses and guidance

The venture also explored educational guidance and course-style content, built around the same audience that followed job notifications and exam preparation.

TRUST

Community trust

Even without a polished business model, the venture built trust because the content came from a real learner trying to help others preparing for similar goals.

The turning point

We had traction. We did not have monetization maturity.

JobNewsToday looked promising from the outside. The traffic was strong, the YouTube growth was exciting, and even Unacademy reached out with acquisition interest. But strong metrics do not automatically create a sustainable company. That became one of the hardest and most important lessons of my life.

1

The metrics created belief.

With around 150,000 monthly website traffic and early YouTube subscriber growth, we felt that JobNewsToday could become something much bigger.

2

Unacademy interest felt like validation.

When Unacademy reached out with acquisition interest, it gave us confidence that the platform had value and the education market was watching.

3

Revenue did not match attention.

The painful part was that money was not coming in proportion to the traffic and effort. We had audience growth, but not enough monetization skill.

4

It affected my own preparation.

I had become distracted from my government job preparation. I could not clear it, and the venture was not yet producing enough income to replace that path.

Venture timeline

The JobNewsToday journey was short, intense and life-changing.

It taught me how quickly the internet can create opportunity, and how quickly weak monetization can turn strong traction into a difficult decision.

Quora discovery

Raja posted a cofounder opportunity

I found Raja through Quora after he posted about a cofounding opportunity. I was active as a writer and reached out because the idea matched my interest in content.

Trust building

From doubt to partnership

I initially doubted the opportunity and stopped answering calls. Raja kept following up, convinced me, and we eventually formed a 50 50 partnership.

Idea shift

From IndiaPost.Today to JobNewsToday

Because I was preparing for government jobs and wanted to teach what I was learning, Raja suggested that we build JobNewsToday instead of a general news site.

Growth phase

Content, SEO, YouTube and traffic

We created job content, notifications, courses, affiliate content and YouTube videos. The website reached around 150,000 monthly traffic, and the YouTube channel crossed around 1,000 subscribers quickly.

Market signal

Acquisition interest from Unacademy

Unacademy reached out during that period, and the metrics made us feel that the venture had real potential. It was one of the first times I saw outside validation for something I helped build.

Hard lesson

Shutdown despite strong metrics

We eventually shut it down because revenue was not strong enough. The platform had traction, but we lacked the monetization skill to convert that attention into a sustainable business.

Next chapter

Joining GlobalLogic to work for Google

After the venture, I decided to monetize my content and internet skills through employment. That led me to GlobalLogic, where I worked for Google in the content engineering department.

What JobNewsToday taught me

This venture gave me my first real founder education.

JobNewsToday was not a polished success story. It was more important than that. It showed me that I could build an audience, create traffic, teach people, attract market attention, fail at monetization, and still use the learning to move forward.

1

Content can change your life.

Writing on Quora helped me meet my first cofounder. Teaching online helped me build trust. Content became the entry point into entrepreneurship.

2

Traffic is not the same as revenue.

We had strong metrics, but not enough monetization maturity. That lesson shaped how I later looked at products, funnels, pricing and business models.

3

A focused niche beats a broad idea.

The move from a general news idea to a job and education-focused platform made the venture more useful and easier for the audience to understand.

4

Failure can still create career capital.

Even though the venture shut down, the skills I built helped me enter professional content work and later shaped Snetiara, Leadsblue, Techlithic, HowToBuySaaS and Sendwo.
